CEWOOD cooperates with the leading universities to develop a new technology

CEWOOD team, in cooperation with researchers from the Construction and Automotive Faculty of RTU, Warsaw University of Technology, University of Savoie Mont Blanc (France) and industrial partners “Budynki z konopi” (Poland), are working at developing a new technology to manufacture wood-containing construction products.

Funding from “M-Eranet” allows to perform an in-depth research of further application possibilities for CEWOOD wood shaving waste from the manufacturing and ways to use them in new, innovative construction materials through processing or recycling. It goes hand in hand with the work of many years and the commitment to attain circular economy goals – zero waste manufacturing.

It is planned to carefully explore the hygrothermal properties of the new construction products and create moisture and temperature fluctuation models over a course of three years. Data necessary for the research will be obtained both in laboratory and small experimental stand where migration of temperature and moisture in the building envelope will be monitored by means of a multifunctional sensor system and different data accumulation and processing methods.

One of initiators of the project, tenured professor, Diāna Bajāre: “The new panels will have high thermal properties, and they will be used as the load-bearing elements for almost zero energy buildings. The innovative construction products will be manufactured from recycled raw material – wood fibre and recycled bonding substance. They will be manufactured in energy-efficient way, with low energy intensity, environmentally-friendly and with zero-waste approach."

Project “Wood waste containing composite materials for panels in high performance almost zero energy buildings” funded by “M-Eranet” is planned to be accomplished until autumn of 2026.
